With the effectiveness of GLP-1 medications finally treating the underlying disorder (a GLP disregulation) bariatric surgery (like gastro bypass) looks like the dark ages. Might as well be drilling holes in their head.

I kinda feel bad for the people who were convinced to get it, having a perminantly deformed and broken digestive system and not fixing the underlying hunger issues...

@freemo Well yeah having a lobotomy would kind of suck too, especially after anti-psychotic meds were invented.

This is definitely the wrong forum to mention the currently prominent other case of surgery to fix a head problem.

Doctors need to get back to do-no-harm.

I am somewhat worried that Ozempic is going to turn out like Fen-Phen to have some nasty consequences. But for now it seems to be helping people who were doomed to be hungry otherwise.

Pretty god analogy IMO.

Medicine is calculate risk. For now, as a new medication, it should be limited to cases where without a solution death is fairly high consequence already. Over time as we find it safer and safer we should relax those requirements.

That seems to largely the case though, not too much abuse I have seen. But im sure there is some. That said, given the pharmocology of the drug it seems reasonable to assume it is likely safe. Most hormone analogs are pretty predictable in how they behave.

@freemo dailymail.co.uk/health/article According to this Ozempic is a general purpose buzzkill that makes just about everything fun and addictive, less so. What do you think?

@mike805 Not at all my personal expiernce. I do t expiernce any effects outside of hunger co trol and blood sugar effects.
