Those who can't read more than a few paragraphs are quite unintelligent or more intelligent in some way but universally lacking probably in many things as a result...
so more about this, also a mini-rant of what we're dealing with as a ' society '
So if depth across the internet and even in person in their daily life suffers and doesn't exist, if they can't stand 'communication itself' - i.e. can't tolerate talking about it then what do we do!?
I believe meeting different styles / re-balancing is always the case. How about you?
Restricting it to short only implies their ability somewhat and stance (without looking down on them) because the case more often is that it's related that you can't do short all the time with damage to understanding and suffering the cost to others or yourself.
Considering life is always more complicated than they might think, people who choose to ignore depth, repulse it, or not answer and even complain in depth about things mostly they want to avoid it (this is part of the Yes/No/Maybe).
Of course few other things involved but mostly this is your opinion without writing-off humanity also (but you do feel without this it's almost totally a big part to blame and most people can do longer conversation, just don't want to or *choose* when they want selfishly like when they complain about stuff they should have been doing something about!!)

People who expect the yahoo.com news headlines (or even Guardian) tabloid style big font short newspaper headline 'did you know' informational things that also avoid self-action / self-determination and avoid many points...
While I agree talking in short is also intelligent (if it's good) this is classically from a TECH/STEM/SCIENCE point of view which almost everyone is coming from (or knows best)
The realm of FEELINGS and other parts of humanity I feel undoubtedly need more words BUT it is vastly ignored mainly because the advance of human feelings or consent or asking people how they feel and doing something with that IS NOT EVEN CONSIDERED :)
So if I'm right and the government is gives birth to everything (and starves/kills off what it doesn't want) then you can imagine feelings or tlking about one's *does not coming in to* their mentality or mostly military program.
A lot of our mental and asking powers are not used... between family occasionally but for example Dr. Freemans or other people responses usually assume this scientific side for brevity / short writing... but in the realm of people it's not like summarising an Encyclopedia page or reducing a formula so exactly... People and feelings can also be shortened, but often the homework and advancement of psychology or even just sharing how you feel NEEDS MORE WORDS which is rejected by this society... mostly because it does pay (the short version) or that the training and structure doesn't reqard or even use these feelings in order to create a healthy life... it's about technological command and conquer... of which is very clear "yes sir" and "no sir" in military vocab... similar to tech people or tech companies... through no fault of their own perhaps but you can see how binary and yes/no without the middle is similar.
So people only want to talk in these terms because binary or yes/no is perfect and perfectionism.... but sadly they miss the obvious point.... we are not perfect or machines so while a scientist or techie may prefer short and precise... to not expect irractic confusing human (especially in this confusing day and age) is quite 'racist' / ignorant and a kind of fascism against that (I say kind of and I doubt I know what these words mean... but just imagine people talking only in money / numbers / binary and you have your road to authoritarian hierarchical fascism or domination by numbers and matrix and not caring for entities or realms of feeling).
Indeed a bit of spin at the end, not deliberately wanting to go full political but really perfect science and efficiency in capitalism (tech and capitalism go together quite well for war efforts) that it's unavoidable to say who pushes these things and not those things... and well those people are some of the things I mentioned. And that's what people copy to survive.
