Looks like cdrom.tokyo got hit by a spam bot this morning. I will try to resolve this as soon as possible.
@SuperDicq
How did this go by the way - much complaints or trouble -
And I guess technically it's just a roll-back?
@SuperDicq
And just out of interest do you feel sometimes it's an unthanked job running an instance... or maybe more that it's too much work ?
Optionally anything about the cost per year would be interesting as co-ops or people I think want to get in but don't have projections for cost or real examples so feel free to say what you can per year or per Gigabyte or whatever... helps keep it real and not a hole people dig (PeerTube instances close down because it gets too much but this is more text/pic based so thankfully better compared to that)
@freeschool I hard to estimate the running cost of my fediverse instances.
I host them at home on my server that also runs a lot of other things that are for me personally and for my business. So I can’t just say my server’s power consumption is the cost of running my instance.
My internet bill is the same answer. I can’t reasonably estimate how much % of my bandwidth is fediverse.
@SuperDicq
Makes sense to merge what you already have around as long as it doesn't get out of hand (data).
I'm currently looking for a data doctor to solve my storing of stuff and then creatively what to do with it (have very little space to create so sticking to text and audio only (which I prefer anyway but still I'm editing lots more...)
@freeschool If you have physical access to your hardware it’s not that hard to create large RAID arrays with cheap hard drives and never worry about storage space again.
If you rent a server storage space often comes at a premium.
@freeschool What I did was simply run a query to delete all posts and accounts with the given timeframe as creation date. So, yes, technically just a rollback.
