There's a big difference between assuming things are dead and it actually being dead.
(This works in many sense of word dead - the physical and mental sense).

Notes + examples below from this posts thought :
--------------------------
█ Value or worth is still to those people there, it's not the number or extreme popularity only.
█ The reduction of numbers doesn't always mean it's dead
█ One can assume (even from experience) something is wrong and be quick to dispose, discard, disregard something because of perceptions, and then perceived time or economic perspectives effort in it's repair... but remove or adjust 1 or 2 assumptions and actually things can be continued... and still existing in another ways.
█ Getting it to "how it was before" is a mind thing which still can be enjoyed in less perfect state (or less perfect in your mind but still better than 0)
Examples below:
- as movement
- as product moving on
- a change of hands / rebranding
- repair of things
└Example 1, software dies but then gets forked somewhere else. You might see it as dead but it's growing somewhere if you look deeper (yes this is effort but can continue just as before once you find new website etc).
└Example 2The growth of a company or fandom might be less or the scene is dwindling from the hype days but small roots can grow and even more cherished (or just the same as it was just not as popular).
