#Podcast tips - Audio filesizes too much in bitrate! = diskspace bloat !!
#Podcast tips - Audio filesizes bloated (could be much smaller)
People still bloat audio ... 200% 300%... for voice?.. I know it's a few tens of megabytes but 10 podcasts and it's x10 problem = 100's mbs waste... or 100 files = 1gb or just more in size is unnecessary...
Bad Example (Good-looking podcast with RSS feed + Ogg files):
https://freetalk.show/feed/ogg/
@abhas
could you have a look?
Ep1 = 19mins (56mb) Ogg
Ep8 = 23mins (71.6mb) Ogg
Obviously clever enough to use Ogg and understand it but At over double CD quality (rough estimate), Terrible if I'm wrong forgive me... 64Kb/s is guarenteed safe in ogg or mp3 (half CD quality) but off is tecnically better fore voice so could even lower at 40Kbps (less than 500Kb per minute)
There is little intro music yes) but still half size or even quarter is fine for voice and tiny in size.
(also less saving time for users to download and you to uploads and download,less stress on networks and disposable data which podcasts are usually).
Check it out and I'll have a word to see if they can resize each by the time you play it...
