The same thing that Threads might allegedly do to Mastodon is apparently absolutely desirable when Mastodon does it to the rest of the Fediverse; CW: long (914 characters), Fediverse meta, non-Mastodon Fediverse meta, Threads/Meta/Facebook/Zuckerberg
Mastodon itself has been doing all these very same things to the rest of the Fediverse ever since 2016. Largely the very same Mastodon users who are raging against Threads now are not only cheering on Mastodon forcing its ways and its non-standard stuff upon everything that isn't Mastodon, but demanding more of it.
Just for the record: Mastodon was not here first. At least Friendica, Hubzilla and Pleroma were, in this order. And Hubzilla even had ActivityPub before Mastodon.

Threads might allegedly do to Mastodon what Mastodon has done... + People's inaction AND 'innocence' = wins for opponents even if they are not so clever... we feed ourselves to them!...
@jupiter_rowland I think you're right jupiter and without wanting bad things to happen, people's inaction AND 'innocence' repeatedly wins even if opponents are not so good, we enhance them with proven stuff (let's call it feeding capitalism, adverts, tracking, whatever).
How Mastodon and EVERYone is feeing them? Link... Our users = U$ers and millions of links per day are a feed to them building them up to come and eat us, and pour money in DRM type mentality...
This something people on rare occasion like you or I might mention.
We could have (and still) use Invidious links to prevent Google YouTube links from adverts and tracking e.g. https://invidious.fdn.fr/watch?v=R3ptZ1W-FRA

But anyway it seems anything longer than few sentence people can't handle.
MY SUGGESTION TO OTHERS:
LISTEN TO THOSE THAT WRITE LONG!! PICK OUT THE TRUTH!

Any "company" or "professional" group determines how aggressive it is according to it's own purpose (normal companies are like a sub-company of government or profit-making outfit and therefore unhealthy).
Mastodon being a much-less-corporate entity makes it way less of any problem because it doesn't aim to take over forcefully (monopolise) and data collect or have vulture capitalism or share with it's 1000 partners and Syndicates ETC ETC
(do you remember in your email checking the box for "Google with it's Syndicates" or seeing in Terms and Conditions... ? )
Much more corporate entities re different in almost all the important ways... which kind of excuse it (even if it less excusable, everything is more harmless if much less corporate)
