@FediTips To the various Masto peeps herein decrying the meagre 500 [a claim i enthusiastically support btw; 500 is far too little]. Did you not notice all the info in the OP? If atm you're on a Masto instance with only the lousy 500, you DO have options... albeit they need some actual effort by you:
change to another Masto instance with more than 500 [there's many, eg, 3 i have are 3000, 10,000 & 11,000 respectfully... but there's many others too]
change from Masto to alternatives like #Friendica [from which i write this post], #Hubzilla [both having essentially no limit], or one of the #Misskey / #Calckey instances or forks [2000+, iirc].
TL;DR = if you don't like where you currently are, move, don't just moan.
@msdropbear42 Agree but small "but" here which can be also why people don't move and keep moaning, which is:
- people are stuck on instances and can't move their data or even backup posts to something human-readable (currently export is mostly a JSON file of text+URLS + DIR of pics in separate folder! On Mastodon at least)
So people also can't move posts or backup to something readable even if word limit is satisfied... but great to have your list of alternatives there thank you and boosted... if you can answer first part of this post it would help too for the many nuances of 'moaning' or troubles people have as I never though there wouldn't be a way to import (even silently) on Mastodon, just export only being given half a feature!!!!!...
