I just heard that you can buy and sell products directly on TikTok. That TikTok accepts payments online.
Why can't we have these options on XMPP or Matrix? This might be why users are on proprietary platforms, because they offer options that open source platforms cannot.

@textovervideo Reasons, possibly in order:
1/ You need Balls - I recommended Masto payments or people to work on respect or pay it forward as tokens but not much back, which moves onto 2nd oint
2/ Communication if you don't have a profession or good avatar is aesthetic for people. There are plenty of weird but strong people and nobody wants to use them - I could myself and measure all the typical reasons why, apart from fear, aesthetics or anonymity a problem while proof of work and "not being afraid of own shadow" super handy to have but alas... no
3/ People like Stux and Trade-free Trom people still don't understand what money is (starts as a debt sold, and then resold while in accounts) so basically a scam / ponzi (but I won't use my breath here, either you know or don't!)
4/ They have family
5/ Will-power NOOOOT THERE
6/ Regulation and gangster-like territorial people, instantly attracts bad actor to you doing business outside of their "matrix" pardon the pun
