Starting today, I am escalating my war against #google by adding a filter in #mastodon that auto-removes any posts with #youtube links from my feed.

For anyone in the habit of posting youtube links here:
- I recommend that you stop doing that. Post #PeerTube links instead, or whatever else, just not youtube (google).
- If you continue to post youtube links then I will not see those posts because of the filter I just added. Don't worry, I will still see your other posts.

Instead of YouTube / Google links, Invidious pre-filtered links - which strip the pagefor you + EXAMPLE LINK...

@eliasr OK I've found a middle ground that has worked with many people personally or by example...

Instead of direct links to YouTube Google (I'm with you there) then Invidious filtered links instead - which pre-strip the page, for example this URL:

invidious.fdn.fr/watch?v=P7NHA

which I just take the video id and put into that link.

Also can use links from any country server with same setup making it less blockable (from middle east for example) and can use any server you can see listed here:

redirect.invidious.io/watch?v=P7NHABs76mg

If anything get people to add bookmark or surfing and searching from here:

redirect.invidious.io/

The whole idea is not to have only an ultimatum to PeerTube (and therefore less conversion or transition gradually) AND honestly a lot of content is simply not found there yet so this doesn't block that (we can still use PT but I agree a lot isn't there at all and we need to mainly stop the adverts and mining mainly, and even almost-stop using it all as it's the same similar things ⛽ 🚗 🎰 🏦 📼 🎞️
⬆️ > Controversial ! < ⬆️

Up until fairly recently PeerTube was NOT a viable and solid option (even I tried it and found many points terrible and almost 'campaigned' lol - I'm a die-hard so yes anyway can say it wasn't ready to offer people even further away...

So the answer (for those very far away and those you don't need to break their mind just get them using better links) is sending filtered links which blocks the bad content and mining using Invidious to filter pages (who do the work of stripping the crap)...

Now it's still using Google for video - but NOT the adverts etc which is a major win and what people can use instead of going back to direct links as all or near-nothing.

PeerTube will get better but this allows you and them to do existing things much better...

Happy to talk about this and many more things (try me / pick an interest or problem you're trying to tackle)...

Final Tip
☑️ Copy the video ID you want by reusing existing Invidious link in browser e.g. the video link ending with v=P7NHABs76mg

becomes = invidious.fdn.fr/watch?v=P7NHA
