MM #11: Renewable Salvation? | Do the Math

The wonderful Tom Murphy on point as he often is.

>As we rush at the community of life clutching our technology, we show every appearance of an intent to do it harm. It won’t matter whether we destroy the living world with fossil fuels or solar panels: we are more than capable of getting the job done either way. Before we get too far along, though, I suspect that the deteriorating web of life will create cascading failures that end up making humans victims, too, and pulling the power cord to the destructive machine. Only then would some people accept that ecological ignorance—paired with technological capability—has dire consequences.

@largess I agree -

A small chance that something will come along and people will fall in love with that and continue that tangent BUT that will be like waving a cat in their faces like which might only last for a few seconds (if not get commercialised) and won't be labelled something like "Climate Change SAVE ME AND YOUR FUCKING CAT!" - so until it gets to the worst point as "local collapse!" and that obvious to people - no change and following their companies driving things into the ground.

Even local collapse still I reckon they wouldn't care and expect the lights to come on!

I think here are a lot like "why work on human change or "why do the people work ?" because they can't leave their work and talk to people AS THEIR MAIN WORK once they have Version 400 done of their programs.

I think talking is a big problem between technologists or whatever label like the WHOLE OF STEM.

Really only 1 or 2 prioritize people or climate lol... no wonder government supports STEM it's totally the same at not listening to people / organising.

is actually as a simple term I haven't see together that often as words.
