@jbauer I saw your blog 'Mastodon Is Dead, Long Live Misskey' and found it very hopeful. It's been years since I removed myself from facebook and embrace Mastodon and Pixelfed which are good replacements for Twitter and Instagram. I tried other fediverse platforms but none is a decent replacement for facebook. friendica is the closest but its too cumbersome and unintuitive.
@jbauer for a while I've been looking for a platform for social sharing and interactions with my family and close friends that is secure and private but have found none. Watching #LouisRossmann videos I found out that his organization is making several apps, one of them called 'Circles', that is similar to the features I'm looking for. But is still in Beta stage. Cumbersome for non-tech people same as friendica. So I keep looking and my next target to try is Misskey.
@freeschool @jbauer I haven't but, I'm hopeful about #Catodon (an Iceshrimp fork that is a Misskey fork). I tested Sharkey but fell short. Iceshrimp is expected to complete its rewrite to .NET on Q1 of 2025. Then Catodon will rebase to the new and improved Iceshrimp. Catodon tick most feature I'm looking for. Specially the Local-Only and non-federated posting options, intuitive language and modern UI. There's a sacrifice tho compared to the Circles app, and that is encryption. We can't have everything. I'm just going to be mindful about the use case of the service.
