@davidaugust At my fall annual checkup in 2016 I mentioned to my Dr that the election got me down. He said the clinic had had a definite uptick and recommended I read the Stoic philosophers. Damned good GP.

Seeking to learn how to develop better relationships, I met with a psychologist who said I first needed to address a painful past with family now either dead or in another continent. Once a week for years I paid him to listen to me talk about this.
When I finally stopped, the pain disappeared, so did the waste of money, & I made better friendships on my own.
Perspective is key. We could all go mad if we obsessed long enough about the fact that we'll all die.
We need people to listen + quality of living / friendships today can be better...
@wattdefalk @paninid @SonofaGeorge @davidaugust Fact is we need people to listen to us (paid or not) and this version of today is increasingly not doing that (all is associated with the money and job only reasons mostly).
Happy to hear more not to guess, but in general I think getting swindled by psychologist or not, the whole process of 'arriving' to your conclusion helps in that - obsession to certain levels is healthy and also not having obsession sometimes.
As part of the human condition being relaxed while understanding relationships need two or more to tango well and many can't dance well or even want to stick to money-only ways as that is clearer and less responsibility than listening to many people (even if it's obvious they need that also as passive listening or more direct types).
I'm helping build better people with their own resolve - and listening is part of that to DIY and see better examples - if that's interesting to you without sounding like building cyborgs, let me know. That way we can die while being heard / seen / cooperating and whatever we want / can help with.
