You meet a genie with a fairly unimpressive skill set. After bumming a cigarette, he tells you that he has the power to eliminate one antiquated form of communication.

You choose:

@missanthropic email ain't antiquated; email is the best communications method ever invented! :)

@missanthropic it's damn near the only form of electronic communication where it's generally accepted to deal with it when I want to deal with it instead of being expected to drop everything and handle it *NOW*. Plus it's standardized and interoperable so I can deal with it how I want to deal with it not how the manufacturer or service provider says I should. It is rather beautiful if done right.

@admin @missanthropic I think there's a lot of reasoning inside a lot of context. A few points:

1- true email has been around a long time (and still used).

2- email suitable with different people (problem is people using it in different ways or new expectations at different costs)

3- different people are able to manage differently (tech skills makes a difference to liking / using things).

For example email spam just as bad as notifications or demanding to read / check even if it's all good emails...

➡️ Summary
So I think it's all agreeable here inside different contexts of people themselves as well as protocol undoubtedly still being used (even if by machines mostly and humans for things like verification or backup way of contact).
