Just a reminder, as I get this a lot, but joining the United Federation of Instances doesnt require **any** time contribution of the part of its admins or instances. Any voting is totally optional to participate. As long as your instance follows our code of ethics you can join, nothing else required other than to federate to other UFoI instance.
DM me if you want to talk more, are are at over 200,000 members and will be open to more over the next week or so before membership will become harder and more formalized.
all intances welcome, from single user to large instances.
@Emmacox I'm personally excited for AI art to get to the point where I can easily get the thoughts in my head out into the world.
The current craftsmanship required for even digital painting puts it out of my reach without some years of practice, assuming I find and put the time into that.
@Emmacox What they are is denoisers. Trained on taking images, adding in static, and seeing how well they can clean them up, undo the damage. Until they get so good that you can feed them pure static and they'll clean it up until they've basically "imagined in" an image.
You can do this yourself. Look at some static, imagine you're seeing shapes in it, and bit by bit move/tweak the static until you've formed an image.
The textual guidance guides the static-cleanup process.
@Emmacox People have this weird notion that AI art is copying pieces of existing artwork. It doesn't work that way. The entire checkpoint of StableDiffusion is 4 gigs. It was trained on 6 billion images. So unless you think one can fit an entire image in less than 1 byte, obviously, it is not storing images.
An easy test is to look up an image label (say on LAION) and type that exact label. Odds are it won't even resemble that image.
