One of the greatest lessons one learns as a doctoral student is to seriously question assumptions. This is not understood by those who haven’t gone through the experience (IMHO). It is also one of the least valued contributions those with doctorates can make to organizations.
@garyackerman The colleagues I have known who make the class-betraying turn towards "administration" often disappoint us by abandoning this very value.
Especially in the institutional-ethical sense.
