Tragic? Perhaps. But it also created a lot of vacant niches to fill.

@Sheril I'm not sure about that. This , it is possible that we are about to face the possibility of a permanent . The maximum speed of evolution is much lower than the speed of climate change that is taking place.

@gojonnes @Sheril Some microorganisms will surely survive. Even maybe some lichens. Some insects are able to evolve very quickly, thanks to very short life spans. I don’t think we know enough to be certain that climate change will completely sterilize the Earth. The chemical composition, including liquid water, and amount of sunlight, should always be life-supporting.
