@gpowerf great news. Games that are exclusive to streaming-only platforms are a nightmare for cultural preservation!
@wiredfire absolutely! So much so that I think there’s a need for some sort of regulation and video game archive (much like film archives) created with heavy help from the video game industry. We risk losing so much of our popular culture without it.
@gpowerf I’m not sure regulation would work only because governments are so consistently BAD at regulating or legislating about anything technological, but the threat of such regulation could be useful to push the gaming industry into a “voluntary” preservation code of conduct or something 🤔
For the most part, pirates do a great job filling this gap (yarr 🏴☠️) but when a title is only on streaming they don’t have access to crack and share it!
@wiredfire you are correct on piracy, older games are largely still available for generations to enjoy and learn from thanks to crackers.
@gpowerf the emulation scene would be nothing without them!
