If I could choose one console from every generation I would choose the following:

1) Magnavox Odyssey
2) Atari 2600
3) NES/Famicom
4) Mega Drive
5) PSX
6) Dreamcast
7) Wii
8) Switch
9) Still undecided... leaning towards PS5.

What would your first choice be for each generation?

@gpowerf
1. Sinclair ZX Spectrum
2. PC

There, all done! ⌨️🖱️😎

@gauteweb what OS on the PC? MS-DOS, PC DOS, DR DOS, Windows, OS/2, Linux? Something else?

@gpowerf
For gaming:
MS DOS for the first couple of PC's back in the early ninetees, then Windows, everything from 95 to 11 Pro.

I've hade several Macs and a bunch of Linux based computers, but never for gaming, except a couple of Raspberries for console emulation.

@gpowerf Your numbers 1 and 2 are before my time... 😁

1) Amstrad CPC 464

2) NES/Famicom (technically the same generation as the Amstrad though, I guess. 🤔

3) SNES

4) PSOne (I bought one of these because it was better looking than the original PS and had a nice solid feel to it. Aesthetically, this is probably one of my favourite consoles, closely followed by the SNES)

5) PS2 (it just had such a huge game library and R-Type Final...)

6) Wii (seemed so great at the time. I recently picked up a Wii U to more easily play my old Wii games and found that my memories of the games outshine the reality of playing them in 2023 😞 )

7) Switch all the way! I play games for escapism, so COD and all that kind of guff doesn't "float my boat". Give me bright cartoon-like worlds to explore and I'm there!

I've even gone off stuff like Gran Turismo now. My XBox One S came with Forza and I've tried to get into it a few times, but I just can't.

@petetaylor @gpowerf While Wii games may not be as good as you remember, know that playing them on Wii U give them a suboptimal picture commpared to the original console.

@Bigou @petetaylor I'm still pretty happy with the Wii's image quality today. :)

@gpowerf @petetaylor Yes, Wii games have a better image on any Wii than on a vanilla Wii U.

@Bigou @gpowerf Agreed, you can't beat original hardware and the difference in quality is perceptible. However, my Wii is nicely packed away awaiting my dream of a dedicated games room to be realised! At that point, I'm going to have to deal with scart connections and the accompanying cable nightmare. I can't say I'm looking forward to that aspect.
