There’s no convincing me that these modern emulation based C64s aren’t really cool. I know plenty of people dismiss them as “it’s just a Raspberry Pi running Vice!” and whilst there’s some merit to that comment it doesn’t stop them being cool.

@gpowerf I might have been more impressed but my opinion of them is diminished because I was a backer of the project and what they delivered wasn't what they had promised.

@gpowerf tbf I don't dismiss them because of that. They could be be wrapped in a cornflakes box for all I care. I avoid them because of the scummy behaviour of the people behind it like Paul Andrews. That being said, if you manage to pick one up for cheap second-hand, more power to you, loads of potential in that little breadbin.

@Gosunkugi I understand your concern about the incident, but I prefer to look at the bigger picture. This is a small company with dedicated employees who have put a lot of effort into making this product. I don’t think it’s fair to judge the whole team based on the actions of one individual. That would diminish the value of their hard work and achievements.

@gpowerf Is the big one with a real functional available anywhere for realistic money? I could imagine using the keyboard for a MiSTer.

Or did I dream a big one with working keyboard.

@breadbin you can pick it up for £120. Which in my opinion isn't a bad price for a brand-new case and keyboard for a project like that.

@breadbin you might find this thread helpful. Essentially the keyboard is USB.

@gpowerf Looks like stock hasn’t recovered in the US. See them for around $300:(

(Ironically I’d be ok with your average random name mechanical keyboard but in a proper C128 configuration. Those $49 type things. But I’ve never seen one. It’s an untapped market, but probably tiny:( )

@breadbin damn yeah, I forgot you guys waited much much longer for them :( they are readily available.

@gpowerf The US is a blessing and a curse in the most extreme ways.

Hopefully they will drop in. Certainly will snag one then. Even if not for the intended purpose:)

@breadbin @gpowerf I can't find the big one in the US at all, but I did a project where I built my own from a dead C64. Here is the video I made.. This little machine has been a lot of fun.

@gpowerf I have one of these and love it, I also ave the Amiga 500 version, and just think its amazing. and this coming from a guy who has both of the real machines. :)

@fratm I never had a C64 or an Amiga. TheC64 Mini introduced me to the C64 and now I LOVE it!

@gpowerf Welcome to the fan club :) the C64 was my second computer ever, and I have loved it ever since. I got mine in 1984. I don't have my original one (wish I did, I donated it to the boys and girls club in the 90s).

@fratm these are both modern, but I like them as much as I like my Atari 2600 or my childhood NES.

I have a second still boxed and never opened TheC64 😀

@gpowerf I learned 6502 Assembly on the C64, so if you are into coding, I highly recommend learning that. Learning assembly gives you a whole new view on how computers work.
