There are nowhere near enough #Chromebooks with 16GB of RAM. And the ones that exist are priced like this.
I really love ChromeOS as a daily driver, but honestly the hardware specs are probably going to the the thing that come new laptop time will push me towards a Linux or MacOS laptop.
@gpowerf I had a 2GB RAM Chromebook for better part of 8 years. Did remarkably well on that, but really not viable for current online needs..!
Mind you, I did get a second life for a year or two running GalliumOS 😁
@wiredfire I use Crostiny heavily, and some Android apps too. So keeping the two containers going concurrently needs memory :) I want high-end ChromeOS laptops. That Asus I showed is fine, but its only one! There's so much choice out there for Linux that if I were to compare I can't imagine I'd opt for the Asus :)
Currently, my main Chromebook has a Core i3 and 8GB and support runs out in mid 2025. I'd like my next one to be substantially more powerful :)
@wiredfire oh they are great! But I have to admit that in the back of my mind, I'm wondering when Google will do a Google and cancel ChromeOS 😆
But given the option between MacOS, Windows or ChromeOS then ChromeOS is my choice!
@wiredfire same, I do need my Linux desktop. But I'm happy with ChromeOS being my mobile solution :)
@gpowerf ChromeOS could never be my "main" driver, I have too many local files and drives and Plex etc.. but it made a brilliant second machine (that I actually used more than the primary, lol).
I don't think they'll tank ChromeOS, too much Education money there, but I could see it evolving into something different over time.
