Today marks nine years since the last big OpenOffice update (4.1). If you're still using it, but want something more up-to-date, check out #LibreOffice! It was based on OpenOffice and is also free and open source, but with huge improvements and many fixes: libreoffice.org/discover/libre

@libreoffice is anyone still using Open Office? 😱

@gpowerf @libreoffice The old Win XP laptop my uncle once gave me (after he'd used it) still runs it. Old memories.

@gpowerf @libreoffice

I am OpenOffice.
Know why?
Because it just works for what I use it for. Why would I use a similar product when the product I use just works for me.

@TopKnot @gpowerf Use what works for you, but be aware that you might not be getting security fixes on time with OpenOffice: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_O

@gpowerf @libreoffice

Yeah, I still use Open Office. With well over a decade of using it, it does what I need it to do, and/or I resigned from trying to get something more from it. My personal needs to write documents has been shrinking more and more with email or other non-standard composition platforms being good enough. But admittedly I’m getting older.

However I’m definitely going to try this out

@gpowerf @libreoffice I am, because I use Dragon Professional (speech recognition), which doesn't work in LibreOffice, unfortunately.

@IzzyChambers @gpowerf Oh, let's try to fix that, then! On what platform are you using it?

@libreoffice @gpowerf Windows 11, Dragon Professional 16. In LibreOffice, the green indicator light shows on the DragonBar, but I can't select text by voice (Select-and-Say). When it released 16, Nuance claimed it worked with LibreOffice, but has since quietly removed those statements. 😞

@IzzyChambers @gpowerf Thanks for the details – if you have a couple of minutes, could you maybe check on bugs.documentfoundation.org in case someone else has reported it, please? Or add a report – then we can investigate. Thanks!
