If the internals are unusable, e.g. totally broken then yes. Otherwise it should be kept as is.
A good example are the cheese wedges for the BBC Micro where some strip them to put PI's in them. Not good in my view.
Except for one which I will be putting a PI in but thats the Universal Coprocessor wedge so it was designed for it. Got the parts so soon my B's & Electron's will have Copro support - the master has a PI in it as a copro already
