Every year more boys than girls are born, but sometimes the ratio gets even more out of whack. It's been called 'the returning soldier effect'. What causes it? Professor Hannah Fry investigates, on BBC Sounds.
@BBCRadio4 protein in diets is usually the explanation I hear. Higher protein level tends to lean towards more males.
@darwinwoodka @BBCRadio4 it would be interesting to see if couples who eat protein rich diets have mostly boys. It’s anecdotal, but we had our son when my wife and I went to the gym daily and ate a lot of protein, we had our daughter after when we didn’t work out as much or eat as much protein.
@darwinwoodka @BBCRadio4 ah! yes.
