I hope what happened to Twitter and more recently Reddit will make people reconsider using these big corporate platforms to host their communities.
So many forums and blogs have disappeared over the years because people flocked to a handful of very big sites. It seems nice and convenient for a while, but it's a huge risk as you have very little control over how these companies manage their product. When they mess up, there's very little you can do.
