I’ve finished an epic second revision of a paper today, two hours before the deadline. Is it still summer? What year is it? Thanks to reviewers, musicians (would we get things done without you?), husbands (just one, really) who bring coffee grumbling you’re gonna die of a heart attack, editors who look forward to a paper on their to-do list on day 1 of their academic year (sorry…), and patient email senders (sorry sorry..) 🍾🍾

Community engaged work means showing up, aligning, protecting, celebrating, and speaking the language of our hearts every step of the way! Cuenta Conmigo Coop is officially a cooperative business and we celebrated presenting at the CDC- NDPAO webinar. Interpretation was a breeze and Lucy was spectacular! So proud of our team!

It's 1:30 AM, I'm trying to reformat an NIH biosketch for NSF using the government's own sciencv website, hitting uninformative error messages every time I click a checkbox to add or remove a paper, and wondering if maybe there isn't a greater role for ChatGPT than I've ever acknowledged.

A (senior) lecturer position in "Physics of Complex Systems" is open at our University (The University of Sydney, in Australia).

Application deadline: Sept 26

Check out the whole programme for all courses (you can take 2 in 1 week!) and a peek at the social program.
As well as fantastic chance to learn new methods & ideas, it's a great networking opportunity - & there's time to ski & fondue as well!

I'm also increasingly hearing from PhD candidates that expectations from their funders or from their countries of origin, where they'd want to land assistant professor jobs include a set number of journal publications in respected journals within the span of their PhD.
Sooooo impossible!

I Want Hue

Years ago, at the Sciences Po médialab in Paris, I made a tool to get a set of well distinct colors: medialab.github.io/iwanthue/
It basically makes a k-means on a perceptually homogeneous color space.

I have been working on and off on it since, and I'll release a new version one day.

Today, someone asked me how to cite it. Then I realized that some academics have been using it! For instance in this paper about biomolecular illustrations: cell.com/structure/pdf/S0969-2

It made me smile.

R users and developers: which integrated development environment do you use for writing R code? #rstats #rspatial #DataScience

I had the oddest dream last night. It involved logging into some sort of high security system. Of course, this system used two-factor authentication, but the second factor was, a dog. You entered your username and password, then you had to call this dog to you and pet him. If dog approved of you, login successful. If dog didn't come, or ignored you altogether, you were not authorized. Hmm. Maybe I should work on inventing this ...
