🚨 Another #openenergytracker update: German #naturalgas imports.

Dependence on 🇷🇺 natural gas imports has grown after 2012. Direct (via Nord Stream 1) and indirect (via Poland) gas imports from #Russia were roughly on par with total net imports in 2018-2021. Since late 2021, Russian net imports have declined significantly, and in September 2022 they fell to zero for the first time. At the same time, net imports have tended to increase (!) overall.

In the last three months where IEA data are available (July to September 2022), net imports of natural #gas have been 55% *higher* than Jul-Sep 2021. Not only have imports from 🇳🇴 increased significantly, but also from "Other" countries, which is essentially Belgium (we probably should show Belgium separately). Meanwhile, net imports from 🇷🇺 fell sharply - and will remain zero for the foreseeable future, as Nord Stream 1 is out of operation and no more gas is likely to arrive from Poland either.
