@mikestevens @taylorlorenz Here is an active, thoughtful thread on GitHub for Mastodon discussing this very thing! Quote boosting appears very likely. They simply want to approach it carefully.

"user-controlled, abuse-resistent quote-boosting"

100% agree with everything in this thread.

@taylorlorenz exactly. btw on twitter posts from private accounts can't be RTed or QTed. Mastodon could certainly use such feature too but with more granular control than that.

People who are talking as if reblogging is what leads to harassment need to understand that abuse happens *far more* often in replies. Does that mean u shoudjnt be able to reply to people? No, it means we need controls! As far as I’m aware there’s no way to limit replies on Mastodon or filter them. Would love for more controls like that to be added. Threading on replies wouod help a lot too imo.

Sometimes you want to go viral, sometimes you don’t. Sometimes you want feedback on a post, sometimes you don’t. Part of meeting the needs of a wide user base (which should be the goal!) is allowing for customization. Facebook and other platforms allow a user to change the privacy settings on a post level, both after and before the post is published, and I think that’s great!

The only video of Eartha Kitt singing this song I could find. BTW, Eartha Kitt deserves to be better known. Unique voice.

@taylorlorenz totally agree. and this doesn't apply to just journalists. Journalists are hardly a unique group in wanting the QT feature. I bet if polled vast majority of Mastodon users would want it. the harassment angle can be handled by moderation which is very strong on Mastodon.

@higharchmage qoto instance implemented QT but Mastodon in general doesn't have that feature. also, when we quote tweet something it just shows up as links in the apps and for people on other instances.

Journalists will never stick around this app long term sadly unless it adds quote posting. We desperately need it to communicate effectively, build on each others ideas, and add crucial context to posts. These are things replies simply do not accomplish. Also quote posting or reblogging does not = harassment! Tumblr, for instance, has had the feature since the beginning. We need it here now too 🙏🏻

LOLitics

By "denies," you mean "lies about." The feature is gone. He could say it's being put back up. But he just lies knowing this is how lies get reported.

The people who refused to applaud Zelenskyy in Congress yesterday are the same people who would have refused to applaud Churchill when he addressed Congress in December 1941.

Eight months after Mariupol fell into ruZZian hands, ruZZia is eradicating all vestiges of Ukraine from it – along with the evidence of war crimes buried in its buildings, such as the famed Drama Theater.

@herid Sagan was kind of a visionary on a couple of subjects IMO. He predicted the devolution and dumbing down of society, criticised the nuclear arms race, warned us about climate change and fossil fuels use.

He was also a great scientist and science communicator. He was instrumental in exploring Mars and the rest of the solar system.

He promoted science but had a gift of translating it into a spiritual message.

@dynode yes. one thing that struck me about this video is how well he explained global warming in terms understandable to general public. master class in science communication.

An interesting twitter thread on some effects of the war on the Russian society which are not often talked about. Including things like **huge** rise in crime which is happening already and will only get worse when those serving in Ukraine come home.

2. Even with variability/weather taken into account, wind & solar compose the bulk of any future decarbonized grid -- NREL did hundreds of model runs, w/ widely varying assumptions, & wind & solar dominate in *all of them*. RE will be the foundation of any decarbonized grid.
