Of course in 1985 it was well known that gas stoves created pollutants indoors and should be avoided.

Now very clear, the Ford govt is going to move devastatingly fast on #healthcare #privatization.

Even though it wasn't in their election platform & they've hidden their mandates since elected, they now know exactly what they're doing and who they're doing it for.

All the pieces were put in place behind the smoke screen of a pandemic and an inattentive electorate. Which companies stand to benefit, and what their individual relationships are with Ford are moot points at this stage.

@paul I wonder if the selective crippling of some (but not all) third-party apps was not simply about forcing all Twitter users to watch ads, but was actually punitive. In other words, maybe doing it this way with no notice or chance to respond was a deliberate "fuck you" to businesses like Tapbots that were "fraternizing with the enemy" by building clients for competing platforms.

Musk is a petty and vindictive man. It's not like this wouldn't be on-brand for him.

@elkmovie @dmnelson I am not sure that's accurate about content creators. this might depend on the field. but of those I follow on twitter majority haven't even tried Mastodon. it is the main reason I still use twitter.

@megachris @dmnelson there will certainly be some of that but the number of people who quit twitter completely has been quite small thus far and I don't expect this to change significantly. I am one of the double users you mentioned. My main twitter client on ios was tweetbot. I am quite upset that Musk killed it but I am not quitting twitter completely (I *have* reduced my use of it quite a bit in the last couple of months though).
But there is too much content there that is not on Mastodon. Moreover, many (most?) of the people I follow who tried Mastodon have moved backed to twitter and stopped posting here. Twitter is hard to quit. Disappointing but it is what it is.

@john @megachris @dmnelson yes. I've been watching @mastodonusercount and there isn't even a small bump in the last two days.
I find this disappointing but I think your take is correct.

Arm Ukraine with planes, long-range drones, missiles, tanks, & air-defense. Everything Ukraine needs to defense itself & liberate territory. There are too many illogical constraints on weapons aid. Ukraine must be able to destroy militarily relevant targets in & out of Ukraine. twitter.com/christopherjm/stat

“The problem with this country is people who make $700 per hour have convinced people who make $25 per hour that people who make $7.25 per hour are the problem.”

@dmnelson this didn't create a bump in Mastodon sign ups though. which sadly suggests that by and large 3rd party app users (those who haven't left already) are sticking with twitter.

@johncarlosbaez thank you, looking forward to the sequel. I remember reading Milnor's proof of Bott periodicity for U(n) and I think it was rather less involved than the O(n) case you are describing. I think the main part was bounding indices of geodesics from below to get that the relevant maps were highly connected. I suppose something similar will need to be done in the case of O(n) too.

@kevinrothrock I don't subscribe to Hulu but this is certainly tempting.

@paul Agree that Musk did this on purpose to Tweetbot and other 3rd party twitter clients. looking forward to Ivory.

Almost 24 hours later and still no official/unofficial info from inside Twitter. I'm going to continue as if this was all done on purpose.

What now? Ivory goes into hyper mode with just the absolute minimum 3-4 things that have to be done finished up and then off to Apple. Probably going to be a bunch of things I'm not super happy with but I guess we'll fix it in post.

Hopefully everyone knows what we're capable of and can live with some, hopefully not long lived, rough edges/missing features.

@Sonikku @paul exactly. this at the very least feels like a trial balloon to see how much fuss there would be from the users if 3rd party twitter clients were killed.
