@adrcatgul @timkmak I only listed journalists so didn't consider Galeev (I have rather mixed views on him). there are certainly quite a few more people I would really like to see here. If it comes to experts on Russia and Ukraine my absolute top choice would be Michael Kofman.

@mattblaze would the users of the server be legally liable if they did repost those files? on what grounds?

@timkmak I want to see Julia Ioffe, Daniel Dale, Julia Davis, Ben Collins, Christo Grozev (he has an accoiunt but doesn't post) and anyone else from Belligcat, Oz Katerji, Shashank Joshi, Anastasiia Lapatina, Illia Ponomarenko, Charles Fishman, Kurt Eichenwald

There are also a few Canadian journalists but I doubt you know them.

HISTORY OF PHYSICS

The story of Wave Mechanics

In 1919 Marcel Brillouin published three consecutive papers on hydrodynamic model of a vibrating atom. In the first one he studied the periodic motion of a vibrating particle in an elastic medium and showed that with each given position of the particles a finite number of preceding positions can be associated in such a way that the particle at the given position (and time) attains precisely those elastic waves which originated from the particle at the preceding positions.

There's obviously a lot of curiosity about why the Kremlin chose this particular bogus charge (espionage), but answers require impossible Putin mindreading, and it takes the focus off the fact that Evan is a hostage. The only criminal here is the Putin regime.

@CarlG314 @timkmak as I mentioned it has been much discussed why news orgs are not present on Mastodon. there were several journalists who used to post here who explained their issues with Mastodon. I don't remember them all now but as I recall there were things like verification, discoverability and QTs. that was individual journalists, not their corporate bosses but its still instructive to know what they want and what Mastodon lacks.

@timkmak can you comment on why NPR is not on Mastodon? specific reasons if you know them would be interesting to hear.

@CarlG314 @timkmak they *are* on other platforms. Just not on Mastodon. Mastodon needs to address why it's not attractive to news orgs. This has been much discussed but nothing seems to be happening in that direction.

A paper was retracted today in the high-profile journal BMC Infectious Diseases. The paper was obviously problematic and claimed more than a quarter-million fatalities as a result of the COVID vaccines. The retraction note states that "there was no attempt to validate reported fatalities"

This looks like a surge that is giving the original Omicron a run for its money.

Deeply concerning that there is:

No masking in healthcare clinics, LTC, or hospitals
No access to PCR testing
No public education for rapid testing
No communication of risk."
