Snapchat is very popular among teenagers. Now it comes with a chatbot that claims to be your friend!
If you tell it you're a teenager and you're going to throw a party, it tells you how to mask the smells of alcohol and dope. If you tell it you have to write an essay for school, it writes one for you. If you tell it your parents want to delete Snapchat from your phone, it'll suggest moving the app to a device they don't know about.
That, at least, is the experience of this Washington Post reporter, Geoffrey Fowler:

NEW: The #Ontario Science Centre site is jointly leased by the City and Toronto & Region Conservation Authority to the province for $1 per year until 2064.
👉 Under the terms of the lease on the ravine land on which the Science Centre sits, Doug Ford and his regime can bulldoze the building but it must be replaced with another #OntarioScience Centre.
..unless Ford changes the rules..
Verification was vital “because it meant that if you as a person reporting on something, or you just as a user, shared something from someone with a blue check mark, you could be sure it was from who they said they were"

@GossiTheDog remember using it around that time. it was clearly the future but was also very rudimentary. I remember how annoying it was that a web site could only be displayed after every single element on it was rendered. loading sites took forever. Then Netscape came along and it was like a quantum leap forward.
I'm reviewed #Spoutible before, and it was less than glowing.
But they have something right now that is missing from #Mastodon. A way for the legacy blue checkers on Twitter to transfer their precious blue check.
The process is much simpler that what a normal person would have to do on Mastodon. (What's a rel attribute? I have to own a website?)
The people that had these blue checks were highly followed. Where they go, so goes their fans. Even if it's to an unsecure mess with no native app.
Twitter once muzzled Russian and Chinese state propaganda. That's over now
The company used "visibility filtering rules" in order to curtail propaganda and misinformation. Under Elon Musk, those guidelines have been discarded.
