Excellent paper on why p-values are not measures of evidence by Johansson (that I missed when I wrote about the topic myself): https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1467-9450.2010.00852.x
Now, for the first time, UCLA #scientists have attached nanoscale #biochemical #sensors, which are tuned to identify specific #neurotransmitters, to a soft, implantable #brain probe in order to continuously monitor these #chemicals in real time.

Do you hear what I see? How do early #blind individuals experience object motion? https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rstb.2021.0460 "#Blindness leads to cross-modal recruitment of the #visual motion area hMT+ for #auditory motion processing"; #crossmodal #neuroscience
I am especially excited about this piece I wrote for @pennNeuroKnow in collaboration with the International Autoimmune Encephalitis Society (IAES).
In response to patient and family questions, I attempted to synthesize how the brain heals from AE and why there's so much variability in the healing process.
#OpenScience is encouraging the publication of null or negative results for it is the best way to avoid spending time, energy and money repeating unnecessary experiments. https://junanaguy.medium.com/the-unreasonable-effectiveness-of-shared-null-results-c51d0b09bcf5
Brain Stimulation Could Help Treat Alzheimer’s Disease
Deep brain stimulation at the intersection of two fiber bundles linked to memory formation appears to alleviate symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.

What’s a hypothesis?
“A hypothesis is not simply a guess about the result of an experiment. It is a proposed explanation that can predict the outcome of an experiment. A hypothesis has two components: (1) an explanation and (2) a prediction. A prediction simply isn’t useful on its own.” (Haroz, 2014)

Entertaining article about why gatekeeping all of science with pre-publication peer review was a bad idea.
The rise and fall of peer review

New preprint from the lab. Ji trained mice on an interactive auditory task in which they control the frequency of a tone with a wheel. Imaging showed that neurons in A1 encode sound, action, and errors. Thus, A1 not only encodes sensory driven activity but also represents the complex interplay between sensory inputs, expectations, and errors. So much more to discover!

It's a 200 year-old question, can #AI invent? 💻
Today, machines are increasingly surprising us – whether it's #ChatGPT or #Lensa.
From 3D circuits to antibiotics, there are examples and #evidence of AI helping humans invent.
In some cases, it might even be the inventor.
💬 According to AI #experts, it's likely to transform how we invent: https://theconversation.com/can-machines-invent-things-without-human-help-these-ai-examples-show-the-answer-is-yes-196036

@jocelyn_etienne @erinnacland @academicchatter I don't mind research grants as such, but the competitive aspect of most grants is destroying academia.
A better approach is to have a low, fixed acceptance threshold for grants, beyond which all applicants get entered into a lottery.
Also, the "don't need to pay researchers if they're getting grant funding" culture is a problem. Researchers are employees, not business owners; universal funding should be the default / expected income source.
