🔭📷 #Astrophotography summer object: The Cygnus Wall (NGC 7000).
I'm really amazed about the mix of dust and gas emission clouds.
Total integration time of 10.5 hours during 2 nights using the SHO palette.
After over a month of cloudy nights, the sky finally opened up last Sunday night. I took this opportunity to get out and try a new filter I ordered in March and received early July - Astrophotography is definitely exercising my patience.
These are the North America and Pelican nebulae (NGC 7000 & IC 5070) in the Cygnus constellation. The image uses the HOO palette where the Hydrogen emission line (Ha) is mapped to the red channel of the image and the Oxygen emission line (Oiii) is mapped to the green and blue channels.
The dark nebula LDN 935 is a gigantic interstellar dust cloud that separates the two emission nebulae by blocking the light they emit, giving this dark appearance.

It's been a dreadful Spring and early Summer here in #Newfoundland for astronomy. But finally some clear night skies last week or so. Fortunate to be in #ParksCanada #TerraNovaNationalPark #DarkSkyPreserve for a couple of them, and captured this scene.
Those red chairs are great for meteor observing (I saw one decent sporadic that night).
NASA practices for 2024 launch of #Artemis2 #moon mission.
The Artemis 2 launching team finished their first dress rehearsal on July 20, which also happens to be the day that the #Apollo11 mission touched down on the moon in 1969.

The M45 Pleiades Cluster
The Pleiades, also known as the Seven Sisters, Messier 45, and other names by different cultures, is an asterism and an open star cluster containing middle-aged, hot B-type stars in the north-west of the constellation Taurus. At a distance of about 444 light years, it is among the nearest star clusters to Earth.

Thought I'd make my first post here one of my recent astro photos, which is also my profile header picture. This is the Rosette Nebula, also known as NGC 2237, which lies 5,000 light years from Earth.
Processed the not-quite-an-hour of data I took on NGC7023 the other evening.
It's a target that needs a lot of time - there's a lot of faint nebular and dark gas that's at best hinted in my result. I've also stretched the data to hell and back, so the noise is epic. I'll get back out with the telescope soon - fingers crossed.

How #Artemis2 #astronauts are training for their 2024 #moon mission.
The quartet from #NASA and #Canada are deep in training for their coming around-the-moon mission. Lead training officer Jacki Mahaffey told Space.com that she's integrating as much of the astronauts' experience as possible into the training flow.

Celebrate 400 years of #moon maps for #Apollo11 anniversary (gallery).
#Telescopes, ship navigation and #eclipses spurred the first detailed charts of Earth's nearest neighbor.

#SkyWatch #Astrophotography The #CrescentNebula is an emission nebula in the #Cygnus constellation. It formed 250,000 to 400,000 years ago when fast stellar winds from a hot WR star collided with slower moving winds expelled by the star when it exploded into a red giant. It lies 5000 light years away, which means that the light from the red hydrogen and blue oxygen of the object took 5000 years to reach the sensor of my camera. #StillLearning
Please enjoy these space photons that traveled thousands of years just to crash into my camera sensor. #astrophotography
Huge fan of this #JeremyHansen jet selfie with Jenni Sidey-Gibbons (not to mention the informative T-38 video he posted).

@chris_radcliff Thanks so much for the best wishes!
Thrilled to celebrate the one-year anniversary of my full-time employment Space.com with this joint #CBS Evening News / Norah O'Donnell exclusive, featuring record-breaking #astronaut #PeggyWhitson.

#Fire in #space experiment could soon make its way to the #moon.
The longtime leader of fire experiments on a private #InternationalSpaceStation (#ISS) cargo vehicle says he's applied to do similar work on a robotic moon lander for NASA's #artemis program, which aims to land people and payloads on the lunar surface in the next few years.

Getting tardy here as it’s just past midnight and I haven’t posted for #AstroTuesday. Here’s a great photo of the Milky Way taken in Mongo National Park, NSW

Here's a lovely infrared view of the IC2631 #nebula, also known as the Chamaeleon Cloud, taken with ESO's VISTA #telescope in #Chile. At infrared wavelengths we can peer through cosmic dust and see details hidden in images taken in visible light.

Rusty #Arctic rocks could help us understand #water on #Mars.
T-MARS researchers are on a hunt for Mars-like rocks high in the Arctic of #Canada. Like ancient Mars, the remote island in traditional Inuit territory is a cold spot that still allows for liquid water at times of the year.

Just popped outside, sky's looking quite pretty right now... Shot on my 6yr old #OnePlus5, tweaked with #lightroom app.

I fell in love with space as a teenager, after watching the movie Apollo 13 in 1996. I still want to be an astronaut!
