#Introduction time! 👋 I am an #engineering #professor at Queen's University in Kingston, #Canada. My expertise is in field and mobile #robotics. I have a newish interest in applications of #machinelearning to #control and #navigation problems. Previously worked as an #engineer at #space #robotics firm MDA. Also currently serve as Director at the Ingenuity Labs Research Institute. My #math #teacher wife and I have three #kids and we enjoy #golf.

How freakin' cool. A #meteor was picked up by EarthCam's CN Tower webcam in #Toronto.

Several hours before it hit, David Rankin at NASA's Catalina Sky Survey spotted the object, and Michael Busch started a thread: mastodon.online/@michael_w_bus.

EarthCam archives about a day's worth of video, so you can still catch it here: earthcam.com/world/canada/toro. Tap Archive, select the 3-4AM clip and scroll to the 3:25:56 mark. #astronomy #space

I suppose it’s time for an #introduction. Not much going on here. I’m a native #NewYorker who found his way to an undergrad #Physics degree, thus the handle. I was in Marketing, then had a second career for 18 years as a #HighSchool #PhysicsTeacher, but have found my way back to my first career.

In my free time, I like to point my camera mostly at the sky, dabbling in #Astrophotography but also enjoy a good rocket launch. Occasionally I get a lucky shot, which I’ll post here.

Nothing special.

Good evening everyone! Here’s the wizard nebula! This nebula is about 8500 light years from earth in the Perseus arm of the Milky Way galaxy!
The cluster of stars itself spans around 20 light years and has an estimated age of 4-11.9 million years. #space is very cool

I processed this image of the Elephant’s Trunk nebula using data from Telescope Live. The data was so easy to play with 😍🔭

The Dark Shark Nebula (LDN 1235). 12 hours taken in September with a 10" Newtonian. Hoping for a clear sky soon after weeks of rain. #Astrophotography #astronomy

Time for a night time photo? I think so. In all my life I’ve ever taken one photo of star trails. I went out hoping to catch some meteors and drove down to Santa Pola.
This is the result.
I’ll have to try it again one day.
Goodnight everyone.

I dunno what people are watching this weekend ... but I'm sure checking in on the casually flying on to the .

Yes, you can track the in real time! And the creatives here on can download the data for or other purposes. :)

I've summarized some of what you can do with the tracking data here: space.com/artemis-1-orion-trac

Hey #EOChat, #gischat & #ScienceMastodon:

➡️Are you hiring for a position in #remotesensing, #Earthobservations, #GIS, or #geospatial?
➡️Have you read a new paper led by an underrepresented scientist in #EO?
➡️Do you want to connect with others working towards #diversity, #equity, & #inclusivity #DEI #DEIJ in #STEM?

Well then, tag us @LadiesOfLandsat and we’ll boost your toot to our network! 🛰️

We might even highlight your paper on a future #LoLManuscriptMonday 🤗

Today is #LGBTSTEMDay a day to recognize the presence and contribution of #LGBTQIA2S #queer folks in #STEM fields!

I’m so grateful for all my amazing queer friends and mentors over the years! They helped me see that I had a place here, first as a bi/pan individual, then as an trans individual when I came out as non-binary (agender) a few years ago!

I’m trying to pay that forward, supporting the @queerornithology community and beyond!

Just heading back from a great #LGBTQSTEMDay workshop at the Royal Society of Chemistry - made sure to wear my rainbow test tube badge from @Jamiebgall with pride!

Lots of great ideas about how to improve
#LGBTQ visibility in #STEM subjects. I'd keep an eye out for more announcements soon! 😁

My First Astrophotography. Another shot of the milky way near Crater Lake, Oregon. This time a car drove past and I got super annoyed thinking it would've spoliled the shot, but maybe it worked?
