🔥Flaming Star Nebula🔥

I rescued some photons from crashing into my driveway, and about 37h later I got this image!

Also they should have called it the 🍤 nebula. Now I’m hungry.

The notoriously faint Witches Head nebula IC2118. They said it couldn’t be done from a suburban night sky in the UK…..they are probably right. 😜 ! But I’ll put it out there anyway, just 5 hours on this target and boy does it need more!

Day 3 of attempting to photograph #cometztf, this time at 200mm with about 30 stacked exposures of 2.5 seconds.

Still trying to get the exposure and focus right for a cleaner image and post-processing to get it looking pretty, but my new lens is serving me well. My attempts to do flat frames to get rid of vignetting went... poorly.

looks like the next few nights are gonna be cloudy, but hopefully I can get the comet again when it's at its closest at the end of the month! #astrophotography

A launched by may have left a brief "spiral" visible over Hawaii after it sent a Global Positioning () into space for the U.S. Space Force on Wednesday.

The Great Nebula in Orion - M42
This is one of the visibly largest objects in our night sky but it requires a long exposure to see all the nebulosity, it is located at what appears to be the central star of Orion's sword which is in fact a star factory made up of massive amount of gas, mainly Hydrogen Alpha.
This is 1,344 light years away so you're looking back in time 1,344 years.

@GPJohnston So glad you asked! It’s been so cloudy here but even with 14°F/-10°C it was clear and got some decent photos.

No matter how cold, when something comes around once in 50,000 years, try to go see it!

Comet C/2022 E3 ZTF from underneath the light polluted skies of Dallas, TX. This was taken yesterday morning. #comet #astrophotography

You want homefries with those photos?

The rocket livened up the breakfast hour on Wednesday (Jan. 18) with the flawless launch of an advanced satellite to orbit.

A physics student and 'aurora chaser' got a special treat after reserving a cabin in Iceland: A storm surge of green shimmering in the sky just overhead.

Finally got the scope out for an imaging session ...
First sub-frame of M45 (The Pleiades) in Luminosity - the aim is 20 x Luminosity, 20 each of Red, Green, and Blue.
A work-in-progress.

A break in the cloudy/rainy/snowy weather here afforded me the opportunity to see the Sun this afternoon! It turned out there was quite a bit happening on our nearest star. Two large and very active regions, AR3190 is especially prominent, and smaller sunspots scattered across the solar disk made for interesting viewing -- through a purpose-built solar-safe filter. The deep orange color, imparted by the filter, helps make the #sunspots more distinct. #sun #solar #astrophotography

Last night, I went to Caswell Bay after sunset to photograph the stars. The bright object in the middle is Jupiter and the blur at the top of the photo is the Andromeda Galaxy, our closest galaxy neighbour (it is actually 2.537 million light years away, so what you see is as it was 2.537 million years ago!)

We went up to Dee Wright Observatory, about an hour away from my home, in the Deschutes National Forest to see Comet Neowise, and I couldn't resist photographing the Milky Way over the North and Middle Sisters as well. It's too bad we have so much light pollution. I think seeing the night sky would be a good nightly reminder of how minuscule we are in relation to the universe. fineartamerica.com/featured/sa #aYearforart #astrophotography #nightphotography #stars

I just took a minute to apply for graduation at
Athabasca University!

I'm grateful for all the faculty/staff support since October 2019 as I pursued the Bachelor of Arts, Major in History; my final project was in Romano-British history. I wanted to study History for 20 years. Thank you!

Here's my best of the Pleiades so far, using a new-to-me Canon 6D Mark II.

60x60s at ISO1600 through an Orion ED80 with a 0.85 focal reducer. Guided with the Orion StarShoot Autoguider.

My very faint C/2002 E3 (ZTF) comet. It was taken yesterday morning, January 12.
This is also my very first comet.
