Bluesky could revolutionize the space of signing in to social networks by adopting and favoring passkeys as a password replacement. Mastodon could do the same!

@rmondello Fun fact: we support Passkeys in Mastodon (well, the code was for security keys) but only as a second factor… I am not sure why it has been done this way, but this is definitely something I would love to change

@renchap @rmondello Yeah I actually have one set up as a second factor, would be amazing if we could replace our passwords with passkeys

@nileane @renchap @rmondello I currently use a hardware security key as a second factor on my instance, and it works well. As I said elsewhere in this thread, I fear that support for Webauthn will end up getting broken when support for passkeys is added (as I've seen happen on other sites).
