On this day, February 18, 1885, the renowned author Samuel Clemens, (Mark Twain), released The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. This story is a follow-up to his novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876). Unlike the light-hearted tone of the first book, the new novel took a much more serious approach by exploring the topic of slavery and other aspects of life in the pre-Civil War South.
