@edutooters So my new school has 3 reporting periods every 8 weeks! Yr 7+8 grades only and P+T interviews week 4-5, year 9 written reports week 7, year 10,11,12 grade reports in week 7 and 11+13 P+T evening in week 8. Cycle rotates every 8 weeks so all groups get a written report. What the actual F.... Anyone else got a crap cycle?
@grant_h Classes are 12-20 depending. I just keep getting told "that is the way it has always been" which is a crap reason to keep doing something. The parents are not really invested and a lot of the kids don't care. It is really odd.
@jellycrystals we do fullish reports every term 4x 10 weeks /Yr.
Near the beginning, I was told my comments were too short. Accurate, but not enough. I took a deep breath, and the generated for each Yr group a generic "what we did this term", pasted that in, and wrote a short, personal comment. Everyone happy.
Every job has its quirks and irritations. For me, it was finding out which ones mattered, and which I could easily enough tolerate.
Good luck.
@jellycrystals @edutooters You mentioned earlier that this is a more affluent boarding school? Does that maybe come with parent expectations? I teach at a private school here, and the fees are steep, just to maintain pay parity with govt funded schools. The communications are seen as part of that 'value add'.
How big are the classes?
