OK, I get it, everyone, especially on Mastodon, screams "smart TVs are bad".
What solution would you recommend that
1. works withtout the native TV apps
2. is not a privacy nightmare
3. is not Kodi
4. _parents_ can use to access Netflix, Max, Prime, Disney+, Showtime, Plex, YouTube, all in 4k, and the occasional streaming from their phone
5. can be used with a _remote_?

I'm looking for a fire & forget solution that requires minimal to no supervision.

@jellycrystals Can you quote power consumption figures perhaps? Also, how can it be controlled with a remote, presuming we are not talking about a controller?
Not against, nor for at this time, need more input. Thank you for the suggestion 🙂

@yourfutureex I don't have my manual anymore but there is some power info here ecoenergygeek.com/ps5-power-co the remote is a peripheral I bought for an extra $35 AUD. We have Disney, Netflix, Youtube and a sports app. Apple TV, Prime Twitch on there. Can get it with a disc drive for dvd/bluray or just as a box for digital games/storage.

@yourfutureex Once initial set up is done you don't have to do much. Yes, you do need a Playstation account...

@jellycrystals Holy powerstation Batman, 70W while streaming? 👀 Although it was not mentioned in the requirements and I was expecting it to consume more than an RPi, I thought it would top at about 30W 😭
I liked that a single device could have secondary uses. I may need to build something myself if there are no pre-baked boxes :thaenkin:

@yourfutureex It does get warm, yes.. It is the best solution for us anyway. Dislike smart TVs and need sonething the kid (and husband, haha) can use. Good luck with the mission!
