He's best known for the eponymous Bunsen burner, which was actually constructed for Bunsen by instrument maker Peter Desaga. It was essential to the discovery of the elements caesium and rubidium through their emission spectra.
@compoundchem Kids ask at school all the time, why are them called Bunsen burners. I always replied Mrs Bunsen invented them but Mr Bunsen got the credit. I guess know I actually know.
