In Germany they didn't mention the number as "unknown" even. (Which would be normal for air strikes.) Just no mention of deaths or even mere injuries at all.

What the news said was zero casualties among the US troops.
I read there were more than a dozen dead among Maduro's bodyguards only. I guess there are many more dead soldiers. And I would be surprised if there are no civilian casualties.
The reported 40 makes sense.
