• The key advantages of two-way paging protocols were the ability to send and receive messages instantly, as well as transmit text, numbers and graphics. However, data rates were still relatively slow compared to modern cellular networks.

• Two-way pagers largely fell out of use with the rise of affordable smartphones, which offered significantly higher performance and capabilities. But the original paging protocols helped lay the groundwork for more advanced wireless data transmission techniques.
