Honest question: if I decide to stay on #Linux long-term, which distro would experienced #BSD #freebsd #openbsd #netbsd users recommend? What Linux distro behaves like a sane, well thought out OS, rather than a hodgepodge of stuff?

So, my priorities are:
* Open Source first, proprietary stuff available, but clearly labeled
* A well organized and documented OS, not just a platform for running Gnome/Steam.
* Access to recent versions of all kinds of software (a robust "ports" system)

@RL_Dane I’d say Slackware is the distro that checks all those boxes best, including being the most BSD- or UNIX-like one.

Disclaimer: I’ve been using Slackware since 1999, so I’m biased.
