I was pretty hype for the upcoming Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom when they announced it, but I'm kinda turned off by the recent trailer.

Feels like they're really doubling down on the TOTK formula, which I really wasn't a fan of. Just like in TOTK, it seems like you might as well solve everything with a rocket shield (or equivalent optimal solution) and not even bother interacting with the game.

Maybe I just don't have the creativity for it, or I'm just too good at "optimizing the fun away". But I hope the game has good puzzles at least.

@eSheep That was the literal opposite of my own reaction. I thought they had balanced recent and old Zelda games wonderfully. I may be wrong, though, because I can see how a lot of puzzles could be solved by using the same object/principle time and time again (i.e., a bed, or a pile of beds, to climb over obstacles).

@josemanuel I guess it will heavily depend on how they limit Echoes.

If you can summon the bed from the starting area anywhere anytime without restriction I think it will greatly affect balancing, because why bother using anything but the dominant strategy?

But if it's more limited, say for instance you only have a set number or times you can summon an Echo before having to find another source to scan, then it might be more balanced?

Because from what they've shown so far, it feels like as soon as you get a flying bird or a wall climbing spider, walls would just be deleted in practice.
@josemanuel And its not just about balance, it's also about fun.

I pretty much never built anything in TOTK, because why bother making a cool vehicle when I could just walk to my destination, using less resources and less time?

Which is why I said I might be too good at optimizing the fun away. If there's an optimal solution to 90% of the puzzles I kinda stop thinking :neocat_woozy:
