@veer66 No, I meant Rust was astroturfed in order to rewrite stuff previously written in C or C++, but licensed under the GPL. Rewriting things like GNU Coreutils using the MIT licence would allow BigTech to get their hands on a fundamental building block of free operating systems. Same with rewriting parts of the Linux kernel in Rust and badmouthing those who oppose that move.
There have even been attempts to put an end to the development of a Rust GCC frontend.
I don't have a strong opinion on C++, but at least anyone can use it to write whatever they want, and compile their code however they see fit.
