@noyoushutthefuckupdad It's not a rip-off, it's an adaptation (in Spain the title was even translated as The Magnificent Seven of Space).

And, while I unironically respect your opinion, all cinephiles that I know, even the most pedantic among us, love it. Maybe it's a movie you have to watch as a child to fully enjoy it, I don't know.

Also, it was a John Sayles' screenplay. Great writer and an even better director later in his career.

Pero, ya que estamos hablando, ¿cómo concilias tu idea de que no se puede convencer a un nazi de que no lo sea (como si la ideología fuera parte inseparable de la propia identidad) con la función rehabilitadora y reeducadora de la cárcel?

@javierfpanadero La ultraderecha tiene muchos resquicios por donde meterse, el principal probablemente sea el discurso del odio de los demás hacia uno mismo. La mayoría de gente que se identifica como “anti-woke” lo hace porque lo ven como una ideología que va contra ellos.

De hecho, para muchos es un discurso que tiene sentido, porque lo perciben de la siguiente forma: “Si yo soy una persona normal, que no me meto con nadie, que no soy machista ni homófobo ni nada, ¿por qué por ser un hombre blanco heterosexual me atribuyen una especie de pecado original que en todo caso cometieron mis padres o mis abuelos, pero no yo?” Argumentos similares pueden aplicarse a discursos nacionalistas o neoliberales. Al final, todo se reduce a hacer ver que la izquierda no tiene la superioridad moral. De todo lo demás, se convence uno mismo.

Problemas de egos aparte, yo sigo pensando que hablando se entiende la gente. Si ellos pueden convencer (o más bien seducir), yo también puedo. La izquierda, si de verdad lo es y quiere sobrevivir, no puede basarse en la exclusión, la cancelación y la pureza ideológica.

@elperronegro Something very similar happened to me years ago, but in Madrid, not even rural Spain.

I had attended a professional workshop and at the end of it, there was a dinner. One of the participants was a vegan, and, as he was English and spoke very little Spanish, I tried to help him order a salad.

I specifically asked the waiter for a salad that contained “nothing that comes from an animal. Just vegetables: lettuce, tomato, onion... You know, vegetables.” It took them three tries to realise that boiled eggs and tuna actually come from an animal.

I have the theory (supported by many such cases) that most cooks do probably think: “Customers will either eat what I make however I make it, or nothing at all.”
