The first physical photo of my #Lisp #CommonLisp #Book that I have seen, next to another Lisp book and the best keyboard that I have seen this year.

My copies are still in transit; I can't wait to see them.

Kudos to Steve Losh for the photo!

"We moved to GitHub because everyone's already there"

"We shut down the mailing lists because most of our users prefer to use GitLab in their web browser"

"We're rewriting in Rust because we don't really have any non-x86_64 users"

"We're leaving IRC because Discord is more user-friendly"

What all of these arguments have in common is that they exclude people, centralize infrastructure, and eschew free software for proprietary solutions, all in the name of some ill-defined measure of "progress".

The Ministry of Truth, in action:

Steve Krakauer: As recently as last month, Webster’s Dictionary included a definition of “preference” as “orientation” or “sexual preference.” TODAY they changed it and added the word “offensive."

Insane - I just checked through Wayback Machine and it’s real.

Re @Skwerrel @mtaibbi So Sen. Hirono is allowed to opine on whether “sexual preference”is offensive but Matt is prohibited? Why is she allowed but he’s not? What do you think of all this?

David Rutz: Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who Mazie Hirono called "our champion" on Monday, used the term "sexual preference" in 2017. Hirono jumped on Amy Coney Barrett for saying it Tuesday, calling it "offensive and outdated."

Re The power of Facebook -- due to its sheer size, integration and gobbling up of competitors -- was already way larger than any democracy should tolerate.

Now that they're actively controlling the news and discourse, it's beyond just a menace. It's a terrifying threat. twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/ #Greenwald

#antis 2020.03 is out. It’s a #Slackware #Linux based , #privacy oriented, live operating system which distributes many anti-surveillance and anti-censorship software. Very happy to see Internet Radio is included as part of slackware-current. Lovely.

It's sad to be perfectly aware of the fact that some people can only learn from their own mistakes, and that anything you say to try and help them to avoid those mistakes will only make them more determined to tackle them with full force.

In its 14 years, WikiLeaks is responsible for the breaking of more major stories exposing war crimes by the US & its allies than the rest of the media combined, and yet (or rather: therefore), the US press remains virtually silent as its founder is prosecuted by the US Govt:

Joslyn ⏳🎗: Happy 14th Anniversary, @wikileaks. Thank you for your service to humanity.

You used to be able to type "mp3s" into a search engine and then you'd just find a million pages with mp3s to download. Everyone's ISP gave them hosting space, too, so you'd have something like users.yourisp.com/~youraccountname and you could just upload HTML and images and the limit was something like 10MB, a lot of ISPs would give you a shell. Anyone that could read an HTML tutorial could just have a web page.

There wasn't any wifi, you could poop and it would be quiet, no one would be able to call you.
