So I've been building a 100% analog polyphonic synthesizer with an unique twist. To use only vacuum tube era technology from the 1930s.
Over 300 neon gas diodes create the sound you hear. Pretty awesome for technology from 100 years ago.
Still a work-in-progress, but I wanted to post a video of it with the innards spread out across the workbench. : }
I call it the "Neon String Machine"

I'm a big fan of the mRNA vaccine tech, and have received both Pfizer and Moderna shots.
This gouging is just sickening.
"Moderna is quadrupling the cost of covid vaccines, from $26/dose to $110-130. Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel calls the price hike "consistent with the value" of the mRNA vaccines. Moderna's manufacturing costs are $2.85/dose, for a 4,460% markup..."

Banks are financing billions of stranded-asset, climate-wrecking fossil fuels. Criminal levels of greenwashing won’t tackle climate emergency but kicking fossil fuels out of finance industry will. British banks must get their house in order @MMMoneyMatter

#Stunning #APOD #picture of the #aurora above #Lofoten island (#Norway). Aurora are currently gorgeous as we are getting closer to the maximum of #solar activity over its (2x) 11-year magnetic cycle.
This #photography inspires me 2 things:
- I want to leave to Lofoten island 🤩
- the photographer is crazy for climbing that sharp-edge mountain at night.

This is genius Albert Einstein who refused to speak at white colleges and at the end of his life spoke exclusively at black universities.
He said: "The separation of races is not a disease of colored people but a disease of white people. I do not intend to be quiet about it."

My wife Sarah firmly out on the picket line at the Christie Hospital in Manchester earlier today. 💪
She loves her work as a nurse so much, but she’s ruined after every 13+ hour shift being run ragged trying to care for more patients than is safe. With no breaks. Lucky if she gets to go to the toilet. It’s not on.
Oh and did anyone say, the pay is also pitiful. Small wonder they can’t recruit more nurses.
Serenity.
Black and white photography emphasizes silence, loneliness, depth.
There is nothing superfluous here.
Just look at this photo.

Why worry about #BlueMonday – a pseudoscientific concept wrapped with b.s. "math" – when you can celebrate the much more uplifting World Croquette Day? (*)
Present in the cuisine of many countries, they're super popular in Spain. My favourite croquettes are the ham ones, and it's the dish I always order in a new restaurant to gauge how well they cook.
(*) look, I don't know how official this celebration is, but I'll take it over Blue Monday any day 😅 #cooking #food

A recent exomoon detection method paper shows that by measuring the reflex motion of gas giant exoplanets you can detect exomoons orbiting them! Unfortunately the most promising exoplanet is Beta Pictoris b, which is not observable from Keck... but CRIRES+ and VLT can do it ;-) Ruffio+ (2023): "Detecting exomoons from radial velocity measurements of self-luminous planets: application to observations of HR 7672 B" https://arxiv.org/abs/2301.04206
I’m attending the VLTI/ALMA Synthesis Imaging Workshop remotely: https://www.eso.org/sci/meetings/2023/VLTI-ALMA-IW.html - some interesting conversations between the optical and radio imaging communities.
