A mob of red deer stags in Richmond Park, they were on the edge of the woods and unless you stopped to look from most angles they were perfectly hidden, I crouched down to take the shot, that's when I could see how many there were (shot with a long lens it looks like I was a lot closer than I actually was). #RichmondPark #RedDeer #Stags #RedStags #WildLifePhotography #Nature #Photography #AltText

The High Court has ruled that the Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, has acted and is continuing to act unlawfully by failing in her legal duty to provide for the essential living needs of asylum seekers. This follows evidence that she ignored advice from her own officials that the current rate of £40.85 per week is no longer sufficient to meet basic living doughtystreet.co.uk/news/high-

@Popehat Is there any explanation for why the world's richest edge lord doesn't just make it explicit that you're not allowed to make fun of him or criticize him on his platform.

Put that in the TOS and be done instead of pretending that there's some larger concern than his own ego.

The whole thing just seems so wimpy.

REFLECTIONS, ANGEL 🚇

I think its fairly obvious that I'm a bit of a puddle hunter. I think the reflections of the beautiful night colours of the city look really magical at night after heavy rainful. Taken at Angel London underground station.

theguardian.com/education/2022 The DfE have very exacting criteria as do Ofsted. I fear this will result in pockets where there are no providers, local research isn't happening and teachers from other regions won't move there.

@irenetosetti How easy/likely do you think it will be to eventually work out the reason why this happening? Currently in debate with OH about the impact of lockdown in UK on circulating viruses/bacteria, and the relative effects of this vs repeated covid infections on headline health issues at the end of 2022.

If you have followed me for years, first on Facebook and then other places and now here, I want to say thank you. My existence has been ruled by these insane algorithms for a decade now, so it feels great to be in a place where there is no algorithm.

@pwgtennant Admittedly not Grade A stuff, but it certainly wouldn't stand out in an average batch of student-written responses!

@pwgtennant The problem, as far as I see it, is that there are only so many ways of regurgitating the same information anyway. I'm not sure there's a difference between the essays that students have paraphrased from revision sources themselves, and those generated by the most sophisticated AI now. For example, here's an AI response to a GCSE-style English question ...

I still see posts with people wanting no politics. So I will leave a reminder:

1. Politics = how we make decisions about living together in society.

2. Not participating in politics = endorsing the status quo.

3. Refusing to participate in politics is a privilege. It is also a decision to abandon those in a more vulnerable position.

You might want to abstain and that's fine.
But someone has to combat injustice, racism, misogyny, anti-Semitism and anti-LGBTQ hate.

The King's Men, a circular group that form part of the Rollright Stones in Oxfordshire. They're believed to have been placed around 2500BCE, and bear a close resemblance to stone circles in the north-west of England, such as Castlerigg in the Lake District. The photos were taken in the fog on Friday 4th December 2022.

The Holocaust did not begin with killing; it began with words.

Genocides do not start with mass murder. That's where they end up.

Genocides & other mass atrocity crimes begin with words - specifically, with powerful people dehumanizing a minority.

Once they are seen as less than human, anything is possible, even mass murder.

Hooooooo boy. Student spouting misinformation about Covid vaccines in their microbiology homework. Makes me want to fail them from the class (this student should NOT become a nurse without some re-education, oy). I won't, of course, but I'll send them a message with my concerns, for what good it will do. There are times when I hate the Internet.

'The above-mentioned experiment, undertaken by Sherlock Holmes, was based on the work of early forensic expert Robert Christison, who became Chair of Medical Jurisprudence (now called Forensic Medicine) in 1822. He was one of the first toxicology experts and was such a reliable medical witness in court that he became the Crown Witness for the prosecution for nearly 33 years. His discovery of post-mortem bruising occurred during his investigation into one of the most famous serial murder cases in history.'
