Bala, & Jesse Nusbaumer showing using an isotope-enabled climate simulation, that NE monsoon rains over India can be associated with more negative δ¹⁸O signatures than southwest (summer) monsoon in spite of being associated with *lesser* rainfall amounts. Interesting to note that the match (or lack thereof) with observations suggests that we still have some ways to go to understand the isotopic controls on this system (seasonality/events?):
