Uh oh. We went for a test drive. The phone calls from the sales guy definitely won't stop now.

I had to tell him last time, "Look, you have to say who you are when you phone people, you can't just start with 'Hey Steve, how's it going?'"

what are they teaching people in car salesman school these days? (to his credit he seemed very friendly and knowledgeable about the car.)

but look when you call somebody, I don't care if you're calling your mother, start with "Hi, this is <your name here>."

@Shayman eh I get some people who complain the other way: "Hi X, it's Kyle -" "Yeah, I know; it shows your name on my phone." I don't think you'll please everyone, and it might have to do with when you learned phone etiquette relative to the proliferation of smartphones.

On the other hand, one calling tactic I really despise is calling me and asking, "Who is this?" If there's someone specific you want to talk to, you can ask if I'm that person or ask to speak to them. By name. If you're dialling random numbers, the next one on your list is just as random as mine; try it instead. I'm not giving you any more information about me than you already have.

@khird As a mature society we have not yet solved the problem of "how do you indicate you don't know someone's name?" especially in face to face meetings where you are sure you have met this person and your brain isn't cooperating.

Some day we'll all agree on something to say here.

@khird In this case though if you are a sales guy and you are calling me from your personal cell phone, which on my phone shows only your number and which incidentally is from a different area code than the car dealership itself, for crying out loud, introduce yourself. every time. It's not my job to put your name/number in my contacts list.
